Until recently, it was required to take multiple day treks if you wanted to see the incredible panoramic view of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu mountain ranges from Poon Hill (3210m). Because of the recent construction of a road connecting Pokhara to Poon Hill, you can sit back and enjoy cruising to the jaw-dropping viewpoint in less than two hours. Our four-wheel drive jeep bounces up the hillside as our eyes are fixated on the beauty that surrounds us. Even from the jeep, we pass picturesque terraced hillside, bright blooming rhododendron forests, and several charming Gurung villages on our steep ascent up the hill.
Ghorepani Poon HIll Jeep Drive Trek, Short Poon Hill Trek
The natural beauty builds our anticipation for what lies ahead. After our delightful drive, we have a short walk up to the viewpoint. You’ll get goosebumps as you take in the spectacular views of Annapurna (8091m), Hiuchuli (6441m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Manaslu (8156m) and many other surrounding white peaks. We take our time, snapping photos and contemplating the enormity of the astonishing peaks in front of our eyes. If you want to hangout for an extra day to see the sun rise over the mountains, it’s definitely worth it.
Whether you’re relaxing in Pokhara, or just want a quick mountain getaway from Kathmandu, this is the trip for you. You get the same views that you would if you were trekking, but you don’t have to do much work to get there. Afterward, we descend back to Pokhara. The best time to do this tour is during the Spring to see the rhododendrons blooming, although other seasons provide spectacular beauty as well.
