Kathmandu Tours

For most visitors to Nepal’s capital city, the experience is out of this world. Each of your senses will be stimulated by constant stimulation in this sometimes disorienting but always fascinating city. There is never a dull moment in Kathmandu.  After a few days of exploring its winding, skinny alleyways, bustling bazaars, and quiet courtyards, the city will take a piece of your heart.

Most visitors in Kathmandu stay in the trekker and traveler hub of Thamel, so most of our tours focus on exploring the areas outside Thamel. To see the best of Kathmandu, the'real Kathmandu,’ one must wander off and explore the backstreets, hang out with the locals, and learn about its rich history and culture. Our one-of-a-kind Kathmandu Day Tours allow for this.

Many of our unique day tours of Kathmandu are not offered by other companies. We make an effort to take a different path. For instance, our Yuck Yummy Tour takes travelers to restaurants that you will not find in guidebooks. These family-owned restaurants serve up local treats, drinks, and delicacies. Few tourists wander off into these kinds of restaurants, making the experience even more special. Or, take our Smoke Day Tour. Intrigued? See for yourself below.

Kathmandu was originally inhabited by the Newars, the ethnic group native to the valley. While their society flourished, they built three kingdoms in the Kathmandu Valley: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Patan Durbar Square. Explore the centuries-old remnants of their kingdoms, which include intricate wood and stone-carved buildings and statues. Beyond these medieval palaces, there are three other UNESCO World Heritage sites within the city. Come see them in all their glory for yourself!

Too many visitors step off the plane and get too overwhelmed to truly discover the beauty of Kathmandu. Those who take the time to explore and learn about it develop a deep appreciation for the city. The countless temples, stupas, and religious shrines, combined with the people (perhaps the kindest and most hospitable in the world), make this wonderful city what it is. A trip to Nepal is not complete without a meaningful tour of Kathmandu.
